The Weather in the Charente

The Charente is in one of the sunniest areas of France with an average of over 2200 hours of sunshine each year. Only the Mediterranean  costal areas benifit from more sunshine.

Generally the area benefits from mild winters and relatively warm summers, although it is not unknown to have frosty nights (between 25 and 40 nights per year) with the higher number as you go further inland. Spring is usually early in the Charente due to the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean.

Summer and Autumn are the best months and are generally dry and pleasant. However summer temperatures can be quite high and in fact in recent years July has seen two extended poeriods of heatwaves where daytime temperatures have reached between 36 and 41 degrees in the shade!

Rainfall throughout the year is usually light, but summer storms can brew up very quickly providing short sharp periods of heavy rain and high winds. The end of autumn can also be wet for a week or two!

June to September are the best months if you want to enjoy the outdoor activities (or just sit on the beach!) with average temeratures in the 20's and daily peaks of around 30.

La Mirabelle has a pool where you can enjoy this weather and stay cool!
